Working Mother Brings the future of Digital
Cloning to Marin County, CA
Scansite, the first service bureau to focus completely
on digital cloning, announces its grand opening. After one year
in development, working mother and entrepreneur Lisa Federici
brings the latest in three-dimensional laser scanning technology
to major clients not only in the San Francisco bay area but to
the world.
Fueled by academy award winning technology invented
and patented by Cyberwareª, Scansite offers four different rapid
3D digitizing scanners to cater to client's specific needs. These
3D digitizers work by collecting a series of digital profiles.
Each profile is obtained by illuminating a subject with a low-power
laser light. Once a series of profiles are recorded, Scansite's
powerful software assembles the data into a 3D model. These digitizers
capture the objects color, shape and surface with an accuracy
as close as 0.125 mm while maintaining the flexibility of outputting
this data onto an amazing range of file formats.
Accuracy and flexibility are not the only benefits
of this new technology. Another advantage is its powerful speed,
scanning the complex human body within 17 seconds. "Until recently,
scanning technology has been painfully slow and inaccurate. With
the advent of Cyberware's video and laser based digitizers, 3D
scanning is now a fast and affordable solution for dozens of applications,"
said co-founder David Bassett.
Founded July, 1996 by mother and businessperson
Lisa Federici, Scansite has developed an impressive client roster.
"We have done a lot of work over the past year with major motion
picture companies like Industrial Light and Magic and Disney's
Imagineering, manufacturing companies like Nike and Oral-B, industrial
design companies like Design Continuum, prototype companies such
as Satellite Models and Prototypes Plus and medical manufacturing
firms like DuPuy Orthotech and Royce.
By paying attention to the specific demands of
these high profile clients we have been able to tool our facility
to offer the most effective 3D scanning on the planet. We have
developed proprietary methods of optimizing our scanners and the
data we output. This is where the name "digital cloning" comes
from. Our scanners are so accurate (up to .125 mm) that what you
actually get by doing business with Scansite is a digital clone
of your original object. Whether it be a prototype for a new toothbrush,
a 100 million year old dinosaur bone, or a jaw headed for reconstructive
surgery, the applications of this incredible new technology are
endless. The opening of this facility is a historic moment for
the advancement of digital technology, "said owner and operator
Lisa Federici.
