Scansite Case Study # 72

Bell Hellicopter
Reverse Engineering a hellicopter joystick

Problems and Opportunities: A physical model was provided. A CAD model for import into SolidWorks was required by the client's contractor.

Downstram Application: An iges128 (Nurbs) CAD model would be imported into SolidWorks and knit ito a solid model (a .prt file).

Solution:
1.Original Model. This model was scanned with our proprietary system and a high density polygon mesh was created. 2. The polygonized mesh viewed in our CAD system. 3. Based on a curvature analysis, the polygonized mesh was organized into 480 patches and a nurbs surface was generated.

4. The Nurbs surface (iges128) was interrogated. All grey areas are within .03mm (.001 inches) of the polygonized mesh. 5. The Nurbs surface rendered as a solid.
